Renting a scooty near UPES Dehradun: licence, helmet, late returns and booking

A plain guide for students renting a scooty around Bidholi, Kandoli and Premnagar. What to carry, what you get, and how to book online.

If you study at UPES, the nearest auto is never where you need it, and the hills are right there. A rented scooty fixes both. Here is what to know before you walk up to a counter. (Rentie is our product, so we will point you to it at the end. The advice holds wherever you rent.)

Do I need a licence?

Yes. Carry your original driving licence, or the copy in DigiLocker. For a scooty, a gearless licence is enough. Keep your Aadhaar or college ID with you as well, because shops ask for a second ID.

Will I get a helmet?

You should, and it should be free. On Rentie every ride comes with an ISI helmet at the partner shop. If you are riding with a pillion, ask the shop for a second helmet before you leave.

What happens if I am late?

Plans slip. Rentie gives a 30 minute grace period on returns. After that, the shop’s own rate card applies, so check it when you pick up. If you know you will be late, extend the ride from your phone instead of calling around.

Where do people ride from campus?

The usual weekend list from Dehradun: Mussoorie, Kempty Falls, Sahastradhara, Rishikesh and Chakrata. Hill roads eat fuel and brakes, so check both before you head up, and photograph the scooty at pickup so nobody argues about an old scratch later.

How to book online

  1. Pick when you want to ride and for how long.
  2. Choose a scooty and see the real price from shops near you.
  3. Choose the store and pay a small advance.
  4. Show the QR ticket at the shop and ride.

Live prices for the UPES belt (Bidholi, Kandoli, Pondha and Premnagar) are on rentie.shop. If you are curious how the booking side works, we wrote up how we built Rentie.
